Stretch marks, also known as striae, are long, narrow scars that develop after the skin is rapidly stretched to the point that it cannot resume its normal form. They can be vertical or branch-like in appearance and can range in color from pink to red to white.

Although stretch marks can occur on any part of the body, they are often seen on the abdomen, breasts, hips, flanks, buttocks, and thighs, following pregnancy, puberty, sudden weight gain, or sudden weight loss.

When stretch marks present with itching, it means that they are developing and in the progressive stage. In fact, active stretch marks, which are typically red, itch because the skin is thinner in the affected area.
